Direct business by player and class · Gross/net premiums and undiscounted underwriting results FY2024–FY2025, plus long-run player and class trends 2001–2025 · Cross-validated against insurers' HKIA disclosure statements · Figures as published (HK$'000 unless stated)
Market gross premiums by class from IA annual statistics (direct business); 2020 figures from the IA's 2020 annual archive (G20b). Statutory Business — a memorandum aggregate overlapping Motor and Employees' Compensation — is excluded and never added to totals. Employees' Compensation and General Liability splits exist for 2020 and from 2024; Pecuniary Loss - Mortgage from 2024 — in other years they sit inside the broader era aggregates. Click legend items to toggle classes; hover the chart for per-year values.
UW series cover all classes — class-level UW results are available only from 2024 in IA statistics — while the premium chart above follows the selected class. Margin = UW result ÷ all-class net premium. Technical margin, undiscounted, excluding investment income. Class-level UW results available only from 2024.
UW margin = UW result ÷ all-class net premium. Technical margin, undiscounted, excluding investment income. Class-level UW results available only from 2024. Insurers without a long-run series under their current name show FY2024/FY2025 points only.

AXA China Region's difference of 415,751 equals the "AXA CRI (HK)" branch leg in IA statistics — the disclosure covers the incorporated company only; the two IA legs combined reconcile exactly. Bupa and Cigna's FY2024 disclosure comparatives match IA statistics to the dollar.
Data. HK Insurance Authority statistics: Annual Statistics for General Business 2001–2024 (G20 per-insurer class tables; 2024 final) and Quarterly Provisional Statistics Jan–Dec 2025. Metrics: gross premium, net premium, undiscounted underwriting result.
Long-run series. Gross and net premiums by player and class, 2001–2025, plus all-class underwriting results, extracted from the IA's annual G20 tables. 2020 figures from the IA's 2020 annual archive (G20b).
Era classification caveat. Employees' Compensation and General Liability splits exist for 2020 and from 2024; Pecuniary Loss - Mortgage from 2024; in other years they are contained in broader era aggregates and are not comparable across the break. Statutory Business is a memorandum aggregate overlapping Motor Vehicle and Employees' Compensation — it is displayed only as a memo and is never added to totals.
Name policy. Trend Explorer and its statistics table show insurer names exactly as published in each year's statistics — era names are kept as separate series there (e.g. 'Bupa' 2007–2023 and 'Bupa (Asia)' 2024–25 are distinct rows). The Player profile is the opposite view: for insurers that renamed or merged, it automatically stitches predecessor histories into one continuous series (25 lineages, e.g. QBE HKSI includes QBE General Insurance (HK); ACE → Chubb Insurance). Every detected change is listed on the Name changes tab.
Underwriting margin. UW result ÷ net premium (≈ 100% − combined ratio); technical margin excluding investment income and discounting.
Coverage & caveats. Direct business only; treaty inward is not class-split in IA statistics. FY2025 provisional. XL Insurance FY2025 A&H gross is negative (-1,224). Negative premiums usually reflect bulk cancellations, refunds, or reinsurance adjustments rather than new business. FY2024 annual statistics exclude insurers with FYE ≤ 30 June 2024 from main tables.
